How to Activate WAP on GPRS in Globe

Globe Telecom, a telecommunications company in the Philippines, offers both prepaid and post-paid mobile services for subscribers in the Philippines and those with activated roaming services in other countries. When using a new mobile phone or even an older one that previously used a non-Globe mobile network, you must first activate Globe's WAP, MMS and GPRS settings to utilize these services.

Instructions
1
Check your mobile handset's exact model number and manufacturer. You need this when requesting for the activation because each setting technically differs per handset. Globe makes the activation convenient for you by simply asking for the handset model so that the applicable settings compatible with the phone gets sent accordingly.

2
Register your phone to Globe's GPRS service, which also automatically activates the phone's MMS, WAP and 3G settings --- for 3G phones only. Go to your "Messaging" menu and make a new SMS message. Text "GO (mobile handset manufacturer and model)" and send to "2951." For instance, if you have an iPhone 3GS, text "GO iPhone 3GS" and send to "2951." You may also call the Globe hotline by dialing "211" from your mobile phone if you need further assistance.

Take note that with the many available handsets that you can use, the exact SMS message may slightly vary in certain handsets. For instance, in some Nokia handsets, you must text "GO (handset model),,1234 and send to 2951. This step requires two commas and the 1234 default PIN to be added to the text message.

3
Wait for the SMS message that you will receive stating that the settings will be sent to your phone or already sent to your phone. While some may automatically configure the settings, some handsets may require the entering of a PIN before a successful activation. This default PIN is usually "1234" or "0000," depending on the handset used. If you are unable to find the PIN in your handset's user manual, you may contact your handset manufacturer through the customer service number for further inquiries.

If you changed the default PIN and you forgot your own nominated PIN, you may need to go to the customer service office of your phone manufacturer for the resetting. Bring your receipt as proof of purchase or ownership.

4
Check your Globe GPRS, WAP and MMS by surfing the Internet and sending an MMS message to yourself to confirm if the activation is successful. Take note that these services will cost you, unless you are under a post-paid plan with unlimited texting and Internet service.

Tips & Warnings
If you previously stored your Globe settings in your handset, then you changed SIM card in the phone and used another mobile provider for a while, returning to Globe may require you to manually or automatically configure the settings again. You can simply repeat the configuration as mentioned in the steps. Since the Globe settings are already stored in the phone before, you may do a manual change of settings by going to your handset's "Menu," "Entertainment," "Services" and "Data Account." Click "GPRS" and select "myGlobe WAP."

Take note that the menu names may vary depending on the handset used. You may simply call "211" to get assistance from a customer service representative.

It is possible that Globe changes the step-by-step procedure for activating the GPRS, WAP and MMS settings without prior notice. When encountering problems with the activation, you can visit a Globe center located in various malls and shopping centers around the Philippines or call the Globe hot-line number through your phone for further assistance.

If you're using prepaid phone, you cannot do any activation request via text message unless you have enough prepaid balance in your account.
